Actor's Studio for 4 to 8 year olds

Discovery Camps have partnered with Lorna Whiston Schools. Established in 1980, Lorna Whiston has built an outstanding reputation for high quality education and teaching excellence across their signature programmes: English Enrichment, Speech & Drama and Preschools.

We are thrilled to have Lorna Whiston's dynamic team of highly experienced drama teachers leading our camp learning. Building creativity and confidence in every child at camp is fun and engaging with drama activities across improvisation and storytelling.

In addition this summer Discovery Camps will be partnering with ABA Theatre Academy to bring to you an open session at SJI International School.

Children work collaboratively with their camp friends and teachers to rehearse a show script throughout the week. Learning script lines, stage directions, queues and movements ready to put on a show!

Parents of our 6 to 8 year olds are invited to the Actor’s Studio show at the end of the camp week in Lorna Whiston’s brand new Black Box Studio. The space mimics the interiors of a professional theatre allowing students to experience performing on stage!

Cinderella and the myth of the glass slippers!
We all know the story of Cinderella and her glass slippers. In fact, this story is a myth! Here is the real story: Cinderella came from a family who were all born with big feet and there was never a pair of glass slippers to fit Cinderella ever. Her shoes were a ginormous size 99! Just imagine a size 99 shoe. Who would want someone with such big feet to live in a grand palace? Was Cinderella the perfect girl for the Prince of "Make Believe land?"

Week 3

The Tiger Who Came to Tea
Have you seen a tiger come to tea? A tiger you will see..when you let your imagination run wild. In this drama when you let your imagination run wild. in this drama, we will be bringing to life the story about "The Tiger Who Came To Tea" by Judith Kerr. We will expand the narrative and imagine where the tiger came from, who his friends are, how did he come to learn about tea and most importantly, is he a friendly tiger? At the end of the week, we will invite friends and family for an open session where we are all invited to have tea with the Tiger.

Week 5
Elmer the Patchwork Elephant
In this workshop, we will bring to life the story of Elmer the Patchwork Elephant by David McKee. What does it mean to be different? Using the story as a springboard, we will also look into the qualities that makes us unique and at the end of the camp. We will celebrate "Elmer's Day" to celebrate our special qualities in a "Jungle Parade." Expect to unleash your creative streat and tap on your wildest imagination as we discover the wonderful world of theatre in this drama camp.

Week 6
Tabby McTat
Using Julia Donaldson's "Tabby McTat," students will be introduced to the wonderful world of theatre by bringing this story to life from page to stage. How do we get into characters? What are blockings? What is an ensemble? Students will be expected to work as a team and collaborate constructively to make a successful performance. At the end of the camp, we will invite friends and family to see our process during the open session.
